Male Transported to Salem Hospital after Loring Avenue Crash

A scene from the Loring Avenue crash.

A male was transported to Salem Hospital after the Salem Fire Department responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Loring Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Chief Gerry Giunta said the State Police are investigating the accident, which was reported at 12:44 p.m. at 123 Loring Ave. — right by a back entrance to Salem State University.

Giunta said the male was in critical condition, but did not know the extent of the injuries.

The deputy said a witness told him “speed was a factor.”

Fire officials said the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, which was traveling from Vinnin Square into Salem at the time of the accident.

Giunta said the vehicle “struck a parked car and went into a fence” on a person’s property.

The deputy said “bystanders helped physically move the car away” from a bush and a house so that the Engine 5 crew could start working on the individual.

In addition to Engine 5, Ladder 1 responded to the scene. Giunta said a member of the Engine 5 crew drove the ambulance to Salem Hospital’s emergency room so more Atlantic Ambulance personnel could assist the patient.
